The soldier perched
On the mountain peak,
Looked like an olive branch
Waving at the saffron sun
Rising on the horizon.
Exchanging a quizzical smile
Considered both of them,
Can peace be negotiated
Across and inside the borders
Only with a gun?
A soldier is always on duty
Whether it is war or there is peace.
Fighting foes on the battlefield,
Rescuing lives in calamities,
He knows nothing of philosophy.
He lives and dies for his country.
Every time the tricolor unfurls,
The saffron band of the flag salutes
The sacrifice of the brave olive men
Who once shook hands with the saffron sun.
