The Refugee's Struggle

I look back at my pain

I come from an ancient place

Where all my family was born

It has transformed into a paddy field now

Where they scorn my shade of skin

I became a refugee, a survivor

Where fundamental rights are absent

Neither at home nor elsewhere

Fear, horror and worry pervade

I can't sleep properly, even counting sheep

I'm a refugee, an embodiment of endurance

I'm a stateless citizen in God's world

I'm not a human like you, just a refugee

Even some animals have their rights

But I don't have that

Today I feel the immense burden a refugee must bear

How could I have survived there?

No UN and no ICJ to shield me

I'm unable to breathe, grant me the breath

I fear my decaying body will find a home in a dustbin later.
