The Regret
The Regret
A son's regret echoes through the years,
As memories of his mother bring him tears,
A single parent struggled alone,
But her love for him was always shown.
He remembers the times he caused her pain,
With careless words and selfish disdain,
But now he sees how much she gave,
and wishes he could have been brave.
To say he's sorry, to make amends,
To tell her he loves her,
before the end, But time ran out,
and she was gone,
and now he must face life alone.
The guilt he feels is hard to bear,
As he realizes how much he cared,
But he never spoke the words he meant,
And now his heart is forever bent.
He wishes he could turn back time,
and show her that he's changed his mind,
To tell her how much she meant to him,
But now her light has grown dim.
So he holds her recollection close to his heart and promises to make a fresh start,
To live his life truly, and
acclaim the devotion his mama knew.
Though he can't say sorry in person today,
He sends his love his way
and hopes she knows that
he is remorseful,
For not saying sorry when
he was able to a person
whom he couldn't
meet forever.
