The Wanderer

The Wanderer

(Dedicated to all who tread the unexplored path)

The day I took the road to nowhere

Nowhere did I find such tranquillity

The road just ended abruptly

With a whole world yet in front of me.

People warned me, that there's nothing there;

For that is a forlorn road to nowhere,

When I found there, that nothing was wrong;

Wondered why the road did not go on!

"Because", someone said

"It would have been so wrong

After all it was a road to nowhere".

The open spaces were mocking at me

The lonely rocks kept laughing at me.

Because I liked the place and liked the flow,

I lifted my load and made myself go.

With nowhere to go and nothing to do

What I did, became my ‘to do’

The rocks now friendly, nodded at me,

Some of the them came up,to speak to me,

The open spaces now so sanguine,

Beckoned me into their realms beyond

By now I was well known in town,

As the man who had taken the road forlorn,

Curious to know as to what I saw,

They too trod the path that I was on

Came back with stories

Of nothing like what I ever saw

Yet it was their own journey to the road nowhere.

By now the path is well trodden

With Bougainvilleas, and Rhododendrons.

The ways are lit and too familiar

Yet now to me, they seem unfamiliar,

Was this the path that I took ?

For this is no more the road to nowhere
