The Year's Gift

The Year's Gift

In spring, Like the colours firstborn,

When we met, for the first very first time,

Our way was adorned by flowers,

Of laughter of those who first invented love.

In summer, like the warmth of the sun,

When we were together throughout,

Our bond was tied, eternal and strong;

By thread of those who first invented faith.

But the story began her tale

When the sky heralded rains,

And the monsoon magic beheld a spell,

The universe made us fall in love.

And led us to heaven from hell.

But when the winds of autumn blew,

I saw your hand slip away from mine,

In trying to grip firm, I saw my hand bled,

But every now and then, you squeezed it back;

And I "believed" the pain shall go away.

But when the winds, cold and hard as ice

Had shed all the leaves, yellow and green,

Your hand drifted far, afar and far

And I felt a knife stab within

But now and then, I saw the love in your eyes,

And I "felt" we could be us again.

This end of winter and spring knocks on the door,

But just before a step, you walked away,

Without once looking back, then I knew

I had lost us, us Long ago someday.
