To Earn 'Dr.'
To Earn 'Dr.'
Few years from now,
I had a decision to take stand for
To be the one in the flock
Or chose that would make me
Gallant as a rock.
And then next six years
I started to lose all my fears
From surviving the tinge of formalin
During cadaveric dissections,
To cuddle to sleep with bones
Of body's varied sections.
Estimating the qualitative values of
Starch, proteins and ketones,
In samples of urine, my expressions
Kept to groan.
Disease became our friends for fun
Hospitals our home to run,
The exams were now demeanour
Of our expression
The bed side examinations left us lauded
With the patient's suggestion.
The margin of demarcation now
Between life and death seemed even
Narrow,
Holding the pulse today so strong
The next day an empty bed
seemed so wrong.
Laughing with the patients,
Weeping after the patients
The mortal whose chest I place
The leads on,
The ECG without commotion and
Breath no long.
The dark meadow underneath our eyes
We never know the time to return to bed
Holding along its size,
The IV drips, medications to slip
Unaware of our hunger drying our lips.
Working through our nerves to burn
We don't expect anything in return
Just respect to our words for your benefit,
As today In every corner of the street,
We are pushed into an envious knit.
