Under the Black Skies
Under the Black Skies
Darkest of dark nights,
When the moon itself hesitates,
When the silence hurts the ears,
Where light hardly penetrates.
Not a soul that dares,
None that wanders,
Anon a lonely dog cries,
And somewhere a bat flutters.
The time when even spirits,
Wonder at the stillness,
The darkest of nights,
Freezes even the bravest of knights.
There is just one that ventures,
Out under the black skies,
A braveheart or one of the fools,
Jumping over the fences.
A thief, he is called by the masses,
He robs and he steals,
I wonder if he too yearns,
For a warm bed and sweet dreams.
