War
War
"WAR! WAR!", all clamoured out
In a wild maddening frenzy
"Blood for blood and shroud for shroud
And no other way should it be".
And though the sun yawned and showed a new dawn
And dewdrops danced on the leaves in glee
But the day was too dark and there was left no spark
In the tear-stained face of 'the bride to be'.
Now tempers rose high and sanity fell low
As hot winds swept dead leaves off the trees
Her heart turned to stone for no tears she had shown
The pain numbed the brain of this 'mother to be'.
They counted the dead both in the east and the west
Now they knew not how to bring this war to ease and rest
While angry flames devoured those who were left
Trudging in quest for peace.
