Wedding Bells
Wedding Bells
It interrupted an ordinary life,
Yes, the proposal that arrived.
It was a solemn occasion,
The decision was hers.
With her consent,
Exuberantly, Mom Dad planned the betrothal.
There in between the cordial atmosphere,
I saw reverence that shone in his eyes,
Seemed like one of his idiosyncrasies.
In my opinion, the knot was perfectly tied.
As everyone admired the ceremony,
I visualized our childhood.
The happenings of today,
The reminiscent of our pretend games.
Those minor rivalries,
The ecstatic times we shared,
All those nonchalant years,
Came flooding back to me.
But with memories in hand, tears in eyes,
Leaving it all behind,
I tried to accept,
That's how it's supposed to be.
"Save the date", they said.
I was doing well, Until the preparations began.
From that day forward,
All that mattered was,
The trousseau, the wedding dress, the card.
All those flickering wedding stuff.
So, engrossed in it all,
We forgot that she was going.
With whom we've traveled the journey of life,
All through these years.
Day's dawn turned into dusk,
And thence, it all began.
The beautiful pair walked down,
Tearing eyes but beaming smiles,
They gazed at them with pride.
All I could think of,
When did this galling sister
Turn into an exemplary wife?
Of all the others,
This was the hardest Goodbye.
