What is Poetry

What is poetry, you ask?

I'm not sure. I have no idea.

It feels a bit like asking, "what is a person?"

So, if we are to talk of "Poetry" like they are a person...

I think Poetry is someone I have a good relation with.

Pretty sure I first got to know them in school. Back then, I wasn't close with them.

Teachers introduced them in class, and they often made it sound like Poetry is someone so sophisticated. We couldn't really understand Poetry.

Like, for example, why does it have to be written in that odd way? Or, why are they using these riddling, difficult words?

I don't remember since when I got close to Poetry.

It's kind of like friendship. Friendship are often like that, aren't they?

One day, you are strangers, and then some time passes, you get to know them little by little...

And before you know it, you are good friends. You can't imagine a different life in which you aren't friends with them; a life in which you are not affecting them, and they are not affecting you.

I like Poetry.

I used to not understand them, but...

They take my thoughts, my feelings, my ideas, and weave them with words.

Then they show it back to me, like a mirror...

Yeah, I think that's it. Poetry is like a mirror.

They are not always easy to understand, yes. And they could be tricky to deal with, every now and then. Sometimes the reflection they are showing is outright deceiving.

But how could you not feel for someone... who take parts of you, and turn them into something beautiful, something meaningful?

When someone do that to you, you know that they are someone who treats you personally, someone you could be intimate with.

And so, to me, Poetry is-
