I wished I hadn’t wished for what I wished for way back then

when I opened the photographs of before then

before I knew destitute

how lewd love could be

house of blue

4 dogs in the yard

checking report cards

Haikus about snow men

precious smiles from little ones

the future looked so bright then

until you came and stole away the years

my attempt at rebuilding the past

spent in vain

children grow

memories remain

like a picture in a photograph

faded and worn

I must move on

to build the future

a scrapbook filled with new wishes

carefully calculated on each birthday

knowing the number of candles sown

reap fewer wishes
