Rakhi is a very simple thread but this thin thread binds siblings with love, trust, and protective instincts which are beyond the boundaries of imagination.

This is the story of one brother and three sisters born in Mumbai city. The eldest brother yet in their early teens while the youngest sister yet to reach her teenage, became orphans that day when they lost their father to cancer a couple of years back, and this day, their mother due to a brain hemorrhage. After their father’s death, the brother was studying in a boarding school in Pune city, the elder two sisters in a boarding school in Mumbai city while the younger one was with their mother. But after their mother’s death, the eldest sister had to leave the boarding school for only two children from one orphan family were allowed free education and stay in the boarding school. That’s how in her place the eldest sister got the youngest one into the boarding school and left her education midway. This eldest sister within a couple of years got married and settled in the city of Surat. Away from all her siblings, she always tried her best to help in whatever capacity she was able to help. The brother once completed his studies moved back to Mumbai and stayed with his uncle and aunt while working at the docks of a shipping company to support the two unmarried younger sisters. He married off the younger sister who settled in the city of Ahmedabad. The youngest started working as a teacher while moving in with her eldest sister in Surat. As years passed, the brother too found his love and was planning his wedding too. But a month before his marriage, when his friend was going to China, he wanted to give him his robot toy to get it repaired. And so, at midnight he left in a rush so as to not miss the ship. But before he could reach it, he met with a severe accident while a truck threw him on the opposite side where another vehicle hit him. He had sold his bike just a couple of days back but before handing it over to the new owner, he had used it for one last time that night. The police took time to identify who had met with the accident as he was not the owner of the bike anymore. After three days they identified and visited his home and met his aunt to deliver the sad news. The sisters when notified could not believe what had hit them, for they had lost both their parents in their thirties and now their only brother too in his early thirties. The eldest sister was more attached to her brother as both together took care of the two younger sister’s problems and concerns. She took it very hard and many times found herself with his photo in her hands and tears in her eyes. That year onwards, on each Raksha Bandhan day, she placed a Rakhi next to his photo frame. She believed, her brother was up there somewhere watching and protecting her and her sisters. Her brother had taken out insurance policies for his three sisters. He wanted to protect them even if anything happened to him. The sisters donated this money in his name to help the less fortunate. They were touched by their brother’s act of love and protection even when he was no more. The eldest sister stood up for her two sisters whenever they needed guidance or support like a brother would. The eldest sister took his brother's place and became the elder brother from henceforth.

The eldest sister was a mother of one boy and three sisters too. As years passed by, and she became old even then, each year she asked one of her daughters to buy an extra Rakhi, so she could place it next to her brother’s photo frame. She continued doing so each year, till one day she too bid goodbye to her family.

Bond knows no boundaries either in life or in death. Love is beyond time and space…
