Birth Of A Mother

This morning, she was down with labour pain. Somehow, they managed to take her to the hospital. The mother-in-law said, "remember what I told you, keep on chanting the mantra, God will fulfill our wishes"She could listen to nothing because she was almost dying with the pain. Soon, she was taken to the labor room. She wanted to see her husband for once before going in but he was not there. She asked all others to call him and ask him to be there, but time was running out, she was taken in. Meanwhile, her husband came. Everybody, the in-laws and even the husband were praying, chanting mantras. And soon the innocent cry of a newborn was heard, perhaps the biggest reason for celebration for them. Finally, she struggled and gave a new life. The gates of the labour room opened and the nurse holding the baby came out smiling. The husband was overwhelmed, he just wanted to run and take the baby in his hands, everybody was so delighted to see this sight. Soon the nurse came near them and said, "Congratulations, this is your little princess".Ah! What??...the mother-in-law screamed, "no, you are mistaken, this cannot be true." The husband, who was almost waiting for the baby was now shocked and could not believe it. Nobody held the baby, the nurse requested them to, but they were reluctant. So many questions and most prominently anger popped up in them as if they were waiting for the mother to come out and enquire about the baby. Their world of dreams shattered. The nurse took the baby back to the ward of the mother.

She opened her eyes and saw the sight of the baby. So delighted, so calm, even though she was in pain, but the sight of the baby was enough to console her. She gazed at her little princess, and told the nurse," she looks like her father".

The nurse, who saw the in-law's reactions, told her, "nobody took hold of your baby, they are not happy on listening that she is a daughter."

She couldn't believe her eyes. She wanted to talk to her husband but he didn't turn up.

A few hours later when he turned up, he was very angry with her. He said, he never wanted a girl child. He said, "let's drop the baby, we"ll try for a son next year."

These words shook her, she was speechless, how could he say this? She couldn't believe it, she said, it's not my fault that she is a daughter, for me a child is a child regardless of gender. He said, "ok! we"ll get rid of the fault".

This evoked so much rage in her. She shouted and cried in pain, "don't dare to take her away, that's my child, do you know what labor pain is? What I have gone through just to give life to her. From now, she won't be your child anymore, nor I'll be your wife either. I can't be with such a man, who can't respect women, you underestimated Women, and you will regret."Saying this, she asked him to leave and promised her daughter that no matter what happens in her life, she'll fight all the odds and will try to be the best mother without seeking any help from anybody.

This was her real awakening She discovered her strength and was now heeding to seek her own identity. Since that day she leads her life as a single mother with pride and recognition.

In real that day, not a daughter but a mother was born in true sense,because her child gave her a new birth ,of her own identity and name.
