Brother becomes a Man

On a Sunday afternoon, Rashmi suddenly felt a pain in her chest and fell down. Her son Rahul rushed to the hospital in an ambulance with his mother. The doctors declared her dead on arrival because she had a heartattack. Rahul was in shock. He didn't know what to do his father had left them earlier for his girlfriend, his mother was the only one for him. He was in class 11. And then he remembered that other than this drastic change in his life his small sister Anubhavi was waiting for him at home. 

He reached home and Anubhavi was crying because she was scared. Rahul gave her water, told her about their mother and she started crying but he explained her that this was their destiny. Now they have to prove that they are their mother's strong children. She understood and they both decided to look ways of earning as a kid and methods of their survival as they were two kids alone. 

They got some money from the bank and insurance agency and then with the help of their neighbours they arranged a funeral of their mother. Then Rahul prepared a monthly expenses chart and the money they had could easily help them survive for six months. But Rahul wanted to save to so he started to look for earning options. He was a star basketball player and his coach said he could play in tournaments that could provide him some money, so he did that. And Anubhavi was excellent in science so she made projects for her competition and for selling purpose too. And they both were able to earn by these means for now. But they never let their grades fall down. They worked hard in every field. They truly proved they were the strong kids of their mother.

But one day, Anubhavi had a red stain on her skirt and was crying because of pain. Her brother took her to the hospital and begged the nurse that he doesn't want to loose his sister too. The nurse said that don't worry child it's just her period. Both of them were clueless about what periods were. Rahul asked nurse if she could tell him about periods. The nurse took him in another room and told him everything a girl goes through during periods. He was surprised to know that. But he was worried about his sister too. 

He purchased a packet of pads but didn't take them in a newspaper cover because for him it was just like a medical help to his sister who had to suffer every month for a week just because she is a female. He researched more about female problems as he didn't want his sister to suffer anything. He saw that his sister didn't eat much and kept on looking at her shoulders, stomach, thighs for long periods of time. He went to the nurse again but he went alone. The nurse said that it might be that she is insecure about her body. And nurse told him some ways. 

He came home and prepared her favourite food. And he could see it on her face that she wanted to eat more but something was bothering her. He asked her that what happened what are you thinking? She hesitated but then said that students in her class body shame her. He was mad on the students. But he told his sister that their will always be some people who'll pull you down no matter what and thinking about them won't make you any better, just focus on yourself, do what makes you happy not others. She understood and ate her food without worrying. 

Time passed and both of them graduated and after settling a bit they started their own NGO. And arranged awareness camps for many problems like menstruation, eating disorders, mental health, etc. They made their mother proud and proved to the world that they were her strong kids.
