Dover 1981, Dover district police station- it was a lazy day for the police, sitting in their cabinets without any cases to solve. It was raining and the sun was about to set. Just then the telephone rang awakening the drowsy policemen.

The call had come from St. Armand street, a lady had called to report about her maid who kept her at gunpoint and stole all her jewelry and cash while she was alone with her baby. The lady told the police to come as fast as they could and catch the maid who could not have gone far away. The police took the details of the case and rushed in their police cars to St. Armand street.

While they were on the way, a lady came running to their car and said in a huffed voice that she was the one who had reported about her maid, she further told the policemen that the maid was trying to run towards the railway station to catch a train and escape out of the city she also told them that the thief(the maid) wore an orange dress and carried a huge black purse which contained all the stolen valuables. Although the train depot was very far away, as police it was their duty to solve the case and so they were going to leave for the railway station but before leaving they asked the lady to come with them and guide them to the culprit, but the lady refused saying that she had left her baby sleeping at home, alone. So the policemen sped off towards the railway station.

When they had just reached the train depot and were about to start their investigation, they received a call from the lady who had reported about her maid. She told them with irritation that it was past an hour that she had reported and the police had not yet reached St. Armand street. The policemen were taken aback and said that they had just met her sometime back and that she guided them to the train depot. The lady was puzzled to hear this and enquired about her imposter......on hearing the details about her imposter, from the police, she shouted at them angrily for their negligence and said that the lady whom they had encountered was none other than the maid herself and that she had tricked the policemen.

So, the policemen had been fooled by the maid's wit, she had escaped with the valuables. But there was one thing to be appreciated - the maid's daring attitude and courage to face the policemen in spite of her crime which led to the success of her act of deception.
