Diwali is a time of celebration when people of all religions come together and this happens especially in Goa, people celebrate all festivals with pomp and gaiety. Right from my childhood, I have seen how all people celebrate festivals of all religions. I lived in a village and I have fond memories of Diwali.

All the villagers used to go to Hindu houses to help them in cleaning their houses and in making preparations for Diwali. This was also followed for Christmas, Ganesh and village feasts. Both men, women and children helped out in whatever way they could. People lived in harmony loving and caring for each other and all the festivals were celebrated in Hindu n catholic houses. In my village which is in Assolna, we had only Catholics and Hindus. So I fondly remember Diwali and the extravaganza that followed this also happened for Christmas when my Hindu friends helped out in putting up the crib and in preparation for sweets. We never cooked on Diwali day, the Hindu family used to send tasty, yummy food and fav a sweet prepared in milk and jaggery, which we relished.

Diwali will also be on my mind till I live on this earth though I am a catholic Diwali is and will always be my favourite festival.
