Echoes of the Past

There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in. The crack formed in human mind and soul during early age when goes unnoticed then pain, anger and distress makes the inner world dark. This inner world is that ninety percent of iceberg which lies hidden but reflects in form of behaviour and attitude. 

"Zareen! What happened to your performance this time I am not happy with this?" Mrs. Tyagi asked zareen ma'am in worried tone. "Sorry ma'am, next time I'll try to give my best."Zareen joined school one year back as mother teacher. Being a very reserved kind of person she kept herself aloof most of the time. Today she was sad. Mrs Tyagi apart from school principal was a pastoral guide to many. She called Zareen in her room and asked about her well being. First zareen was a bit hasitant but all of a sudden her emotional cotton came out and as Mrs. Tyagi started counselling her, the word marriage pressed her hot button which erupted her sentiments like a volcano. Tears started rolling. "It seems like there is something that you want to tell me. Correct?" asked Mrs. Tyagi. " Ma'am I am getting married next month." said Zareen ." That's really great news, what's the matter to worry then?" asked Mrs. Tyagi inquisitively. " Ma'am my whole personality, thought process and lifestyle changed when I was fifteen because of my family traditions and my parents." She went on saying because today she found trust in someone on whom she can rely to share her emotions and feelings. There were many cracks that made dent on her heart and soul. Those wounds are still not treated so she appeared lifeless everytime. "What I feel is that you want to reveal something?" asked Mrs. Tyagi. " Yes ma'am! since my childhood I was teased for my skin colour and average performance in school. I was compared and still I am compared with my friends and relatives for this. I always struggled with all these when one day I came to know that my marriage is fixed by my cousin nine years elder to me. It's in our family tradition that we have to marry our cousin. No body understands me. One day he tried to molest me. This devastated me. When I tried to tell my parents they did not believe me. I lost trust on all. As I could not make a good career now I have to marry him. Can you imagine a person who tries to molest and has no respect for me I have to marry him?" "Don't worry. You are a self dependent girl with a very charming personality. I suggest you to show your worth and move ahead with your esteem high. It's difficult to move ahead with these scars but the courage to say NO only can heal you." Zareen got the light and she stepped out to say no with high self esteem and confidence. These things are still prevailing in our society which are major cause of mental weakness. They need to be incinerated.
