Ghost Stories From Goa - The Old Well

It was past midnight when Ramon came out of his room to go to the restroom. He had recently joined one of the posh restaurants in Madgaon Town, as a waiter. Being situated in the centre of the town, the restaurant had always been crowded; so were the pockets of the waiters from the tips. He was enjoying his work. The owner of the restaurant had provided accommodation for the staff right next to the restaurant.

Ramon sleepily walked towards the restroom. It was in a corner of the compound, fifty feet away. After finishing his business, he came back to his room. But he couldn’t sleep. So, he decided to wander inside the premises for a few minutes.

Ramon stood in front of the restaurant and looked around. The lights near the compound walls were kept on. He could see moths flying around them. He walked, passing the lawn, the parking lot, and the generator room, and then reached the main gate. Staring outside, he stood there for a few minutes. Then he decided to go back to his room.

That is when he heard the splash of something falling into the water. Startled, he turned in the direction of the sound.

There was someone standing near the old well that was covered with a steel mesh. He went near to get a better look. When he was about ten feet away, he froze in shock. There was a woman, standing next to the well. As his mind was trying to assess the situation, the woman signalled for him to come near. Ramon, sensing danger, instantly ran towards her. As soon as he reached the well, the woman disappeared into thin air. Terrified, Ramon ran back to his room.

The next morning, sharing his experience with his colleagues, he heard the story about a woman who had committed suicide in the same well, a few decades ago.
