Half-Engineer

“Don’t forget to call as soon as your plane lands in Mumbai”, said my mother wiping her tears. I turned away and started walking towards the security check, leaving her alone. After all, I had a bigger goal in life like a soldier has. After all, that lump in my throat wasn’t letting me say a word. After all, I did not want to end up becoming a housewife like her.

“But wait!” I said to myself, “Was she just a housewife?” “Was I missing something?”. Yes, I was. Wasn’t she the brave warrior when she didn’t stop me from moving to big city while she spent her evenings alone at home. Wasn’t she the innocent child when she believed I was fulfilling her dreams while fulfilling mine. Wasn’t she being cheated when I didn’t go home because I had fallen in love with the charms of city.

Shouldn’t she atleast be the “half-engineer” if I call myself an engineer.
