Love Is Found On College Hill

It was a hot day in March of 86' when they trekked up College Hill, as it is called, located outside the Christian Medical College in Vellore. Though the sun was blazing they didn't feel it. Deep in conversation, the trek began from her house, not very far from the hill. The topic is nothing, in particular, just a basic attempt at trying to get to know each other better. The parents had recently met and seemed to have liked the family and the young girl. Although the son was also present at the first meeting, a conversation between the girl and himself was left to a bare minimum. He knew that he had to return and find quiet together time with the girl alone. March that year came to the opportunity when he was sent on duty to Kochi which passed through Katpadi, the station where she lived. Trekking up the hill, asking the right questions and finding similar compatible grounds brought them together.

College Hill is a hill of huge rocks mounted atop one another with little to nothing growing from its surfaces. A bush here and one there is all that it sports. This hill is however very popular with the medical students of Christian Medical College, Vellore as a place for trekking, romancing, and even just a spot to find some quiet and thoughtful time. It was here they found a spot which had two rocks wonderfully set so as to form a quiet nook. That's where they set themselves down to continue their discovery of each other.

"Yes I love music and teaching," she replied.

"Wow, that's nice, I am into music even as a profession"

"Do you play any instrument"?

"Yes, a little piano and I sing," I've won many awards singing in school

and college." The conversation went on between the couple interspersed with quiet gazing into the eyes of each other as though they were trying to gauge

their innermost emotions. Studying each other with an aim of trying to find out the real person.

"What do you aspire to be in the future?"

"I want to be a teacher, I just love to be with children," she said with an expression of sincerity and meaning.

He stretched out and reached for her hands. "I'm beginning to fall in love with you," he said.

She looked shyly at him and he could make out the softness in her gaze. Their eyes seemed to be making conversation with each other. He gently took her face in his hands and planted a kiss on her forehead.

"I can't promise you a bed of roses, maybe only thorns on the pathway," he said.

"We'll see," is all she replied.

The couple sat there just holding each other feeling the closeness with her head on his shoulder. Nothing more to be said. It was as though they didn't want the serene and calm atmosphere to change. Love was in the air and with it came a bonding of two hearts.

"I love you," he whispered.

"I love you too," she confirmed. Love was born there on College Hill.
