Dungarpur is small beautiful city of Rajasthan. It is known for tribal belt and backward district. Dungarpur has a glorious past and mysterious history. When one visits Dungarpur, he becomes overwhelmed after watching beautiful scenery and small mountain range. I wonder why this city got this name and how these tiny mountains are situated here. I met scholars ,historian and reached it’s history. I found many magical and wonder story about Dungarpur. This incident is about that period when Dungarpur was not like it appeared today.

Maharaj Virat Vardhan ruled this city and at that time it was called Udaiwada. Virat Vardhan was a brave warrior. He never encroached other boundaries and never forgave who tried crossed Udaiwada’s border. People were happy and felt proud after getting such eccentric but great king. Once, the British were dominant all over India except few places in Rajasthan. Udaiwada was one of those places. Lord Bilhauji sent a letter to Virat Vardhan that it was in the favour of Udaiwada if he accepted British dominance over Udaiwada; otherwise Udaiwada would pay its cost by blood of it’s citizens. Virat Vardhan got mad after listening to these words. He took his sword and announced a war against British ruler but his minister advised him that Bilhauji was a great diplomat and had a army of million soldiers along with latest weapon. We were not in a position to face such huge army with old and out fashioned weapon.

Virat Vardhan roared that it would be happier moment to die in battlefield for the sake of his kingdom, his people rather live like a coward, it was not in his blood. Virat Vardhan did not listen to anybody and reached into the battlefield along with fistful loyal warrior. All fought with gallantly and proved that soil of Rajasthan was mother of extraordinary warrior. Bilhauji tensed a little bit and ordered his tank army to vanished this mad army. Two consecutively fire and all brave soldier laid on to their motherland. Bilhauji smiled and said that if this king had some sensed that never fight against us and ruled his kingdom under our dominance but these were that bloody Indians who love to die rather accept our rule. Bilhauji moved further and ordered to hoisted Union jack . As soon as one sepoy began towards Udaiwada’ s flag, a big stone hit that sepoy.

All were surprised how it happened, one little child was in the battlefield, his eyes was full of fire and he shouted like cloud burst. He rolled his hands in the air again and again and miraculously all dust were also rolled along with his hand, he threw this stone ball over the British army, little champ was so quick that he rolled his hand and threw a stone mountain. He thundered; his bloody eyes seeking revenge, he rolled his hands again and again and his hand was fill with stone mountain and he suddenly did stone rain on the battlefield, as his anger was increasing, the size of stone ball increasing, now there were raining not from the sky but mountains by that child. British army could not stand in front of mountain rain.

Little warrior was not stopping ,he continuously threw mountain all over field. His mother came and stopped him otherwise every place was a mountain. The whole city was filled with small mountains, these small mountains were called dungar in Rajasthani. Hence Udaiwada became Dungarpur - city of mountains. This little child became Dungar Vardhan and ruled Dungarpur, Dungarpur never come under British empire. This was the blessing of Mavji maharaj, who blessed this child and save Dungarpur. Mavji was a great saint and scholar of Dungarpur. This was the story that believed after naming Udaiwada into Dungarpur and Dungarpur formed its shape - full of small mountains.

Many other mysterious stories were associated with Mavji maharaj and Dungarpur history, in next sequence I would try to unravel another mysteries of Dungarpur.
