Pandemic

It's the middle of the night. A boy stands on the edge of the roof. He is one of the many workers who have been laid off in the pandemic. Another statistic on the long list of the unlucky people involuntarily contributing to the nation's sinking economy. Sleep evades him every night. Floating down the smooth air almost seems inviting. He closes his eyes imagining it. The mirage of his father's face confronts him, " We will starve to death, my son! "

Moving back from the edge, he drifts off to sleep, holding his family photograph close to his heart.
