Chapter Three: Stray Dogs are Best Guard and Scaring my Ward

I spent the days talking to Cacti, requested old case files of the previous 9 murders through my replacement Officer who is working on the 10th and probably last murder and ate from the best restaurants of our beloved city. After one week, I got bored and decided to cook something for a change. My replacement is coming today to deliver the casefiles of what was formerly my case and demise. Rudy is very popular amongst women officer for being handsome and chivalrous – a very rare combo. He is also one of the few people in force who believed in my hypothesis. They even made a remark how I received a punch from the SP who is normally is a very calm and collected person. It made me thinking, “Didi, I am confident there’s more to these murders!”

“Oh, Suck-it! You are all alone sitting here as if I don’t care about your presence!”, I almost shouted with eggs carton in my hands after suddenly coming to living room.

Rudy was startled to death, “Whoa, senior! Language! I know I’m a lot of junior in this line but this is the first time I came to your home – as per request and… I am committing a felony by handing over this info to a suspended officer!”

-“What? I was not even talking to you. I bought a new succulent out of loneliness and lost it in my home. Its name is Suck-it, I just happy to see him/her/they.”

-“Are you… Are you worried about getting a plant’s pronouns wrong? Also, You should lock your door! I came in and sat here for 10 minutes and you are so shocked and happy to see THIS PLANT!”

-“Oh, you are an attention seeker! Of course, I know you have been here; I was just cooking and waiting for the song to end.”

-“ What… but… Anyone can get in. What if somebody tries to hurt you?”

-“No wonder ladies like you. Anyone will overlook this shabby apartment. I had the dogs remember your scent; believe me, street dogs are the best guards and best fighter against sells people.”

-“My scent? How could you? Wait… I was never put on a mission with or under you. Never sat on a same meeting room. How is that possible?”

-“…”

-“And one dog was very angry with me when I tried to enter. But none of them made any noise!”

-“Oh, his name is detective. He is so… EXTRA. He didn’t get SP’s daughter’s cologne on you today so he was confused about you being Rudy.”

-“What?! How…! You are gonna get me killed?”

without saying anything, I went to kitchen and the lunch was complete. I took it to the living room and Rudy sniffed and made a funny face, “Did you make it for me?”

“Not really, you wanna taste?”, I left him a small bowl and spoon of my special biriyani and went out to give the dogs a well-deserved feast. I came back ASAP to get Rudy a breathing mint and Dark Chocolate bar to put him out of his misery of tasting the Biriyani for dogs and cats.

I put on some presentable clothes and looked at Rudy’s shoes – okay this will do. He didn’t say anything and quietly was eating the chocolate.

-Let’s go and grab a lunch in Park Street – it’s on me, I am pleased to see you wore the nice moccasins. I have to ask a lot about the lunatic we call our boss. You must have something to ask me about the Serial Killer case. I will not be taking any question on how I know about your scent or Bhagyalakshmi’s perfume. She is nice but lunatic like her father, not a good choice for you.”

-“Yes, she is a control freak and quite abusive. It is not going…”

-“I am not a relationship adviser, kiddo. So, save it up for a very expensive therapy lesson. Drinks are not on me, I hope you have enough money for that on you.”

-“Nobody except you thinks that boss is a lunatic. You did something unthinkable by making him angry.”

-“I can press charges against him for the punch – in front the media too! Haha, I AM evil.”

-“Yeah, I didn’t know… I just thought you are mysterious and wise.”

-“Work on a sexist line for 60 lines where brood is praised more than brains, you’ll learn to be more than wise and mysterious.”

-“Ma’am, you are 35 years old and you can’t be working more than 20 years…!”

-“Yeah btw how’s that lunatic… err, my boss is doing?”

-“He was furious for two days; to every single officer, staff and anyone. He cut your access to police database on the third day after seeing you constantly on line. He stopped media from publishing the Serial Killer rumour. Through higher ups, orders of rusticating you from police force is coming nonstop. Also, his own account to database got hacked right after your access was denied. You are not even trying to hide yourself. And I am not gonna tell you what is he doing about it if you don’t tell me how you know about V and me! Check”

-“Boss can throw me punches but can’t throw me out of my job. If he does, he knows I will press charges of assault and innate sexism of the force. Also, I can upload a video of my Serial Killer version in internet and your boss and YOUR ‘Higher-ups’ will face public wrath for leaving them in dark and the mercy of a serial killer’s hand. I don’t need you to tell me anything but remember how would Boss will feel if he knows about ‘V and you’. Checkmate.”

My junior officer Rudraprasad blah blah Aiyar said nothing else the whole taxi-ride. He looked at me as if I’m Goddess Kali and he’s a 5 years old boy who is scared but too awestruck to run away. It was a yellow non-AC taxi in a pleasant mid-winter noon but he was sweating a bit. I won’t lie but it made him look more pretty. I had a crush on Rudy until I found he chose Bhagyalakhsmi! Well, he is just a boy after all. To err is boy. Not human, because a woman will hardly make this kinda mistake. He was transferred far away from his state because his life was at risk after he investigated a political murder in his hometown. He went deep. I understand he is fearless but dating your lunatic boss’s more lunatic daughter was nothing about Fear; it made me question his sanity and intelligence. Anyway, I got the upper hand and that is what matters in the end.
