Reservations For Women

Reservations For Women

I have my own reservations regarding reservations for women in India. Do women really need reservations be it in education, jobs, employment, welfare schemes, administration & politics ??

Women are now seen competing with men in every sphere or sector which is laudable. Men have also changed their stance & outlook and regard women as serious competitors capable of taking them directly on a merit basis. These reservations will only make women lethargic and pessimistic which must be avoided.

Today's women do not consider themselves unequal or inferior to men. They do not regard themselves to be incapable of taking on men. In fact, they are seen "walking" with men hand in hand, step by step, and stride by stride in every field of duties and day-to-day activities.

It is no exaggeration when I say that today's woman of the modern era and the digital age has a subdued role to play at home and a major or "pivotal" role to play outside the four walls of her home be it at the workplace or sports arena or political arena or professional arena or even business arena. They are ubiquitous.

In other words, today's women are by & large self-reliant and by no means "parasites" or dependent on men for their survival or livelihood. To put it simply, they do not need "freebies" and reservations from either the government society or administration.

Why give reservations to women at a time when they have developed or adopted a competitive and positive mindset? You are only weakening them or their willpower by sending a wrong signal to society that they are a deprived lot.

By giving or offering reservations to women, you are literally considering or regarding them as unequal and inferior to men. You are conveying the wrong message to the world that women in India belong to an oppressed class or oppressed category of citizens and hence need to be treated differently.

Is this the correct approach or an appropriate attitude of the country that is growing or developing at a fast pace and inching towards the elite category of developed & advanced nations ??
