The Butterfly’s Greed

A long time ago, there lived a butterfly named Khatti, in a garden. One day, while she was roaming in the garden, she saw a beautiful flower that had all the seven colors of a rainbow. She wanted to make her home near it. But when she looked around, she noticed that a butterfly was already living there in a beautiful house. She went to the butterfly and asked her if she could live with her. The butterfly living in the house introduced herself as Meethi. She was good-natured and was really very happy to invite Khatti in her house. They both talked for a while, Meethi said that she allowed her to come to her house because she felt very lonely. Both were happy. A few days went peacefully.

But Khatti had different intentions. She didn’t want to live with Meethi because she wanted to live alone and invite her friends for parties in this new house. One day, after Meethi drank nectar from a flower she got stuck in a dry branch. Her head started rotating but she could see Khatti’s blur figure. She yelped for help loudly but Khatti didn’t come and flew away. Luckily, after some time, the gardener’s son came for playing in the garden. He noticed an injured butterfly. He was kind and took the butterfly caringly to his home and took good care of her until she could fly. When she could easily fly, the boy let her go. Now, Meethi understood what was in Khatti’s mind. She went back to her home. When Khatti saw her, she behaved like she didn’t know anything. She asked her how all this happened. Meethi explained everything that she had got hurt and the gardener’s son took her to his home, where he gave good nectar and cozy home. Listening to this, Khatti became greedy and went to the same dry branch to sit there. After some time, she fell fast asleep and again gardener’s boy came but for a different purpose. This time, his father had told him to bring some dry branches for the fire. The boy came to the plant where Khatti was asleep on one of the dry branches. Seeing the butterfly unmoved, he thought that it was dead and he broke the branch. As he did that, the butterfly Khatti fell down and her wing got injured. She shouted for help but no one came. As the boy had already gone and Meethi was also not there for help. She laid down there only, for a long time.

Moral: We should never be greedy. We can get momentary happiness by being selfish and greedy but if we do something with hard work and goodwill then we will always gain success.
