The auspicious day of Makar Sankranti had just commenced. Dawn came slowly, followed by a bright, cloudless sky. A mild wind could be felt, and Ken was about to dress up himself. Not many but four of his friends, rather, business partners were accompanying him on a tour to Australia. He was all set to leave, and bid a warm goodbye to his mother and his sweet, innocent sister.

Julie, Amara, Ronan, and David were waiting for the past 30 minutes. At last, they met at the airport and completed all the formalities. They seated themselves in the flight and the flight took off. After a time taking and tiresome journey, they reached their place—SYDNEY. Hiring a cab for the five, they eventually reached the farmhouse where they were supposed to stay for eight days and seven nights.

The guard, with hands, joined, and with a sweet gesture, welcomed the team.

The main entry hall was quite huge but vacant. There was nothing but statues of five people consisting of two girls and three boys.

“What a pleasant surprise it is’’ said Ken.

“How did you know that we are five and that too two girls and three boys?” He asked the guard

“This is not a surprise. This huge mansion belonged to five people, and so are their statues.”

“So, where are they? On the Earth or in the heaven” Ronan said mockingly.

“Don’t create a joke of them, these five people were very kind-hearted and benevolent. They died of a reason that no one knows. It’s still a mystery. Even the most intelligent of people become mad trying to solve their mystery”

Amara’s blood ran cold. She thought that if their death was still a question mark, then their soul would be roaming around here and there.

Said Ken, “There’s no need to panic. Let all of us have a nap for it was a fatiguing journey.”

On the very next day, David rose up, and rubbing his eyes, he went to the swimming pool to freshen up.

Suddenly he shrieks. Everyone gathered over there and to their horror, they saw Ronan’s dead body in the pool the pool is red with blood.

Ken went up on the terrace and saw the railing was broken.

“Guys, he must’ve died due to his carelessness,” said Ken.

When they went into the hall, they spotted that one of the statues was missing. They panicked.

With a heavy heart, they went to the jungle. Though they had thought of enjoying themselves to their fullest, the accident that had happened in the morning disheartened them. David said that he was going to the washroom.

An hour passed, and so did another hour. David did not return. Julie said that she will go to look for him. Suddenly she yelled.

“Oh no!!”

Amara and Ken reached there and saw the pathetic condition of David’s body. His skin was torn with scratches of paws.

Amara cried. They agreed upon the decision of leaving that place as early as possible. Since the sun had set, so they packed up their belongings to be able to leave the next morning.

It appeared as if there was some supernatural power or something, that was killing the people because after the death of poor David, the fourth statue was also not there in the hall. But Ken did not believe in supernatural powers.

The identity of the guard was already suspicious. So, Ken went to the guard, who stayed in the outhouse. But he had not expected Amara in his house.

“Ha ha ha…foolish people; they thought that I was scared of ghosts! I am having pity on them. I cut the railing and left my wild fox behind David. And they thought it was a coincidence! Poor people. Tonight will be the last night for Julie, and next would be Ken. Take this bundle of money. Do as I say so.” Said Amara to the guard

Ken was horrified. In a hurry, he went to Julie to unfold the real truth about Amara. When he reached the hall, he saw Julie lying immobile in the hall. Her breast was red, appearing that she was stabbed.

Suddenly he heard the sound of bullets.

“Who is here? Come in front.” He said with terror. Ken turned back and saw Amara collapsing. The knife dropped from her hand.

The police shot the lady, as she was trying to stab Ken.

“Thank you so much for listening to me and coming here on time. Had you been a few seconds late, my dead body would have been lying here instead of hers. I knew that something untoward was going to occur and so I called you.”

The police shook hands with Ken and took the dead body of his fellow business partners, or so-called friends.

Ken took over all the business and led a contented and thriving life thereafter.
