The Eyes Behind The Wall!

She was standing at her regular place at regular time, and he was standing behind the wall, two houses away, well hidden from her eyes. It was a routine which they had followed for almost two years. Everyday irrespective of the weather and her health she use to come to the terrace looking at nothing in particular and he use to come only to look at her.

She was aware of his existence behind the walls, the only thing visible from the hole in the walls was his eyes and sometimes his uncombed hair. Still she never felt scared or stalked by those eyes. She always felt the existence of those eyes in her life, they were present when she was on terrace, they were present when she was going to school, they were always there day and night looking at her. They use to provide her the comfort by just being there following her.

They both were once batch mates but later he flunked and was left behind now she was in tenth standard and he was still in class ninth. She was a topper in school, everyone had lots of expectations from her and he was just a school drop out with no future. They both were undergoing pressures in life and they found solace in each other’s existence through this distance.

He once tried to approach her to give voice to their comfort by asking her,”What’s your number?” She got angry and uncomfortable with his audacity to take this bond further from watching each other, she shouted at him,”I will complaint to my mother that you were asking for my phone number.” He was scared at the prospect of losing her even out of her sight. He never dared to ask her anything further. They both had a silent agreement in which he will see her from behind the wall and she would let him see her at that fixed time.

She was once again a topper in her batch, it was time for her to move to another city to achieve her big dreams. She knew she won’t see those eyes again but she cannot share the pain with anyone. All her stuff were packed and everyone in her family were ready to leave behind the memories created over the year in this city to chase new in another bigger city. Everyone came that day to say their goodbyes but she was eagerly waiting for him to come. As she was leaving the house she saw him standing outside his gate. She turned back and walked up to the terrace at the same spot and he also rushed to hide behind the wall, they both saw each other and he waved at her, she smiled with teary eyes and waved him back and this was the first time she acknowledged the eyes behind the wall.
