The Girl From Nowhere

Once, in a very unknown and secretive planet called Xarthan, there lived a girl named Zyla. The name might sound unusual for us, but on the planet Xarthan, every name was unique and different. Everything was different from the earth. You could fly and have amazing powers. But unfortunately, one-day Xarthan was invaded. Captain Deotus from planet Bay, their great enemy had come to take revenge on captain Weloid (the captain of Xarthan) for destroying their home and loved ones. Zyla was young that time, just about ten years old, and so her parents wanted to find a way to save her. They sought out every person they could find, and finally, a madman named Dero built a spacecraft that could travel to a faraway planet, of course, none other than our earth. Zyla was afraid as her parents loaded her in the craft, but her mother said, “Do not worry child, for you shall be safe there, on earth”.  Her mother then sprinkled some memory potion on her, so that she need not worry about them. Within a flash, she vanished, from sight.

The spacecraft was huge and so fast, that it reached earth in about 15 minutes. On arriving at the mysterious planet, she saw many short people roaming here and there (they only seemed short to her, as on Xarthan people were extremely tall from youth). She was in Chicago. Even though she was only 10 years old she was pretty intelligent and knew how to get her way around things. The first thing she needed was a place to stay. So, she went around the place and saw a group of people. She asked one of them in very bad English, “Hello, I not know where am I can u lead to home?” One of the friendly ladies replied in an American accent, “Oh dear, you’re in Chicago! It is an amazing place, and you’re welcome to stay at my place if you’d like!” Zyla was glad. She was very perplexed and did not know where she was. She knew she was different, but she just didn’t know why or how.

The lady led her to her house and gave her some food to eat. She felt very weird and awkward, for on Xarthan they did not eat food at all. So, she just left the plate untouched. “Probably you’re tired. How about some rest?”. The lady took her to the bedroom and requested her to sleep. But this time too she was staring at the bed, as she had never seen one before in her life. Xarthanians didn’t sleep either. “I wondering what your name”, Zyla said. “You be so nice me and me like you”. The lady was delighted. “My name is Annie, dear”, she replied, “and I am very happy to have you as my guest”. It was night and Zyla was still up. She was just staring at the bookshelf in the room. One book was out of place. One thing similar to earth was that in Xarthan, people enjoyed reading books, and so did Zyla. She took the book out and saw the cover. “Zodiac signs and their meanings in Xuro,” it read. “Xuro...," something seemed familiar to her. It was her own language, but she could not remember that properly, due to the memory potion her mother had sprinkled on her. She opened it and noticed that she was able to read it effortlessly. Annie came in and saw her reading the book. “Oh dear, how are you even able to understand that! It’s in an ancient unknown language!”, Annie said. “Yes, but I read I not know how,” Zyla told her. That entire night she kept reading the book.

The next morning, Annie called her for breakfast, but Zyla told her that she did not want to eat. “Is there professor name Yolks here?”, she asked her.” Why yes there is, but he’s quite a madman...well, why do you ask?”, Annie replied. While reading the book, Zyla had discovered many interesting facts about the different zodiac signs, and she wanted to ask the author if he had more books in Xuro. When She asked Annie for the address, Annie was quite hesitant, for who would want to visit a madman? But she anyways handed the address in a slip to Zyla and told her to be careful around him. Zyla immediately rushed off, trying to make out where ‘Greams road’ was. She saw a man in a small yellow cab, which was parked by the side road (which seemed very strange, cause in Xarthan people did not travel in cabs or cars). “Excuse sir, you know where Greams road?”, she asked him knocking on the window. The driver nodded, and she asked him for a ride. The driver demanded money, but she did not know what that was, so she gave him her diamond-metallic ring which was her mother’s. The driver finally accepted it and took her to the place.

On arriving at the professor’s house, she felt very comfortable with the house, as it looked like a Xarthanian house. She knocked on the door. Suddenly a tall man (as tall as her), with a grey beard opened the door. “Good mornin, how may me help you?”, he asked her. He wore a dark blue apron, which was covered with dust and Zyla could see a familiar mark. It had Xarthanian stamp on it. Zyla suspected something and spoke to him in Xuro. He could very well understand it! He took her inside and introduced himself in Xuro. “Ki to my nami Yolks”, he said. “Mi ko yo com, u Xarthan?” He asked her if she was from Xarthan. Zyla told him all she remembered.

Yolks told her what he was working on. It was a spacecraft which would travel back to Xarthan. He told her how his parents had saved him, by sending him to earth. Xarthan was invaded at that time. That was the same thing which happened to Zyla, but she just could not remember it. “Me want go back Xarthan, Yolk said. “I try work on spacecraft, but me need one more thing. That is diamond-metallic object for gear. Zyla had a diamond-metallic ring. But she had given it to the cab driver, she told him. Yolks looked out of the window and saw a yellow cab. “That yours?”, he asked her. Zyla was so relieved and just ran out. But before she opened the door, she asked him if he had any “money”. Yolks handed some “money” to her and she went outside. “Me want ring back in exchange for money”, she told him. But the driver refused. Yolks came out and demanded him to give it back. “I am sorry miss, but it’s mine now”, the driver told her. Yolks got very angry, that he just snatched the ring from the driver’s hand. The driver was just going to retrieve it, but he feared to do so seeing his huge muscular arm, and just drove on. “Now it time to work me magic”, Yolks said. He fixed the ring in the empty space and lo! The spacecraft was ready. It was so huge that it could carry around ten people.

“Are you ready”, Yolks asked her. She wanted to go but felt that she should first thank Annie for her kindness. Yolks agreed and gave her money for the cab. “I be wait”, he told her. Zyla got on the cab and told him to go to Mark road (Annie had written her own address as well on the paper). She went inside Annie’s house and found her crying. Annie asked her to sit down on the sofa. “My poor dog is dead”, she said crying. Zyla looked on the floor, to see a poor old beagle lying flat. As we already discussed, Xarthanian had extraordinary powers, including healing animals. Zyla used her powers, and to Annie’s surprise, the dog started barking. She was shocked and nearly fainted. Zyla told her the truth. “You’re the kindest person I have ever met! Xarthan sounds wonderful”, Annie told her. Zyla was happy, with the fact that she actually helped someone. Annie bid her goodbye, and Zyla made her way back to professor Yolk’s house, with the remaining money.

She saw him standing outside. “I ready”, she told him. They both went inside the house and got into the spacecraft. In a flash they disappeared out of the roof, smashing it to pieces. It was a few minutes before they reached Xarthan. Everything was quiet there. She started remembering things. Baynians had invaded them. She was worried about her parents, and about everyone else. “I feel your power”, Yolks said. “You could save the planet”. Zyla did not know what he was speaking about. She had power, but she never really believed in them that much.

But Yolk’s words had entered her mind. She knew that she wanted to save her planet. With so much anger and so much force, she burst out all the power inside her. Something magical happened. All Xarthanians had reappeared, including her parents. “See me tell you”, Yolks happily told her. The Baynians were forever banished from Xarthan. They were sent back to their reclusive planet, upon which Zyla used her powers to cover it by a shield. They could never escape or come out. Everyone was proud of Zyla. Everyone wanted her to become queen. Zyla was delighted and said, “I will be queen, queen to Xarthan”. “But I will take the help of professor Yolks”. Yolks gladly agreed. Zyla looked at her parents and told them, “I am proud to be your daughter and a Xarthian”. Her parents hugged her, and the three of them shared a moment. That day forth, Zyla and Yolks were known to be the best rulers of the mysterious and unknown planet Xarthan. The planet hides at the edge of our Solar system in plain sight- as a dwarf planet; perhaps you’ve heard of Pluto…?!
