I gazed out of the window. I could see the uncanny blue glint of the moon. I suddenly started feeling lousy. I moved my sight back to my computer screen. It had turned off on its own. I slowly moved my mouse. The screen slowly lit up again. I quickly saved my last document. I looked out of the window again….

It was Halloween. The kids had come trick-or-treating, and the candy bowl was almost empty. I sighed as I unwrapped a candy and popped it in my mouth. I looked back at my laptop screen. I suddenly noticed the background of my desktop. It was me and my sister standing next to each other. I still remember the photo was when I was 10. But she was no longer with us. My heart aches whenever I think of her. I suddenly noticed myself tearing up. Maybe I missed her too much? You see, we were very close. Even if we fought very much, we could not live without each other. I sat back in my chair again staring at the wallpaper remembering those golden days. I wiped my tears and gently smiled. I wish she was still with me. Her name was Ann. We actually never got along. We always used to fight with each other for silly reasons, scream at each other, and even hit each other! Whenever I remember one of those fights, I kinda find them funny. I laugh every single time I think of the fights. I want her back so bad. I found myself tearing up again, when the doorbell rang. I quickly wiped my tears. “Must be one of the children who has come trick-or-treating…” I thought to myself.

I opened the door as it creaked a little. In front of me, was a small girl who was wearing ragged clothes- a dusty black shirt and a pale black skirt. She had dark black long hair which almost covered her face; still I could see her light green eyes. She held a little orange basket in her hand. It kinda gave me a strange feeling. She suddenly looked into my eyes. Her eyes glinted in the moonlight as she said in a soft voice, “Trick or treat?”

I smiled at her. “Just a sec...” I grabbed the rest of the candies and put it in her basket. “There you go, little girl- wait, what’s your name? I haven’t seen you around.” I said. There was a silence. She kept staring at me, without saying a word. Her dark hair suddenly reminded me of my sister. Fighting back my tears, I repeated, “What’s your name?” There was silence again. She did not even leave, just kept staring at me. “I…..I…” She suddenly blurted out. “S…s…sis…” My eyes widened in shock as my heart raced wildly. “ANN…?” I blurted out without even thinking. She kept repeating those same words. “Sis…..s…..sis…”

Then I remembered something. The last words of my sister. She was lying on the bed. I was sitting on the floor, holding her hand. She did not even move. She just lay there, without saying a word. “Are you okay, Ann? Please answer me!!” I kept repeating. Suddenly I felt her hand twitching. “ANN?!” “S…s……sis….sis….” “Beep………………..”

The next thing I saw was my parents sobbing near Ann’s bed, and some doctors standing beside us. Some other doctors suddenly came there and they took Ann away. I never saw her again.

I opened my eyes. I looked back at the door. I looked around. Ann was nowhere to be seen. The chilly breeze came in through the window. Was it just my imagination? I closed the door deep in thought. I sat back on my chair gazing at the sky. The moon loomed over with the clouds covering it like a blanket. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Maybe I was too sleepy? I closed the window, turned off the lights, and lay on my bed. “Miss you, Ann….” I whispered. Suddenly someone whispered back, “Miss you too…..”
