The sun blazed and burnt Jasmine's nose. A trickle of sweat raced with another and made her scratch the back of her ears. Her eyes darted from one end to other on the road as she looked for her son. He was tagging along clutching her saree, blessing the hawkers on the roadside a moment ago.

Where could have he gone in a matter of seconds? She was not so careless to let him wander off for more than a minute. How long had she been walking without him trailing behind?

For every turn she maneuvered, every man she seized round, she felt a surge of current make her hairs rise.

Why, that man had no right blocking her way selling those dammed fake ear-rings. In her eagerness to get past him, she kicked his shins fiercely. The man had the jewelry in tiny plastic bags hanging on nails on a thin five feet pole. Her kick scattered the packets all around and in the commotion a crowd gathered. Huffing and sweating, she pushed past a knot of middle aged women in cotton sarees and sprinted away. The man cursed and screamed at her.

She jumped across an old couple bent on a red Tashkent rug and landed on the road. Then, she saw him, sitting beside a shabby black dog pointing towards the gathering. She rushed forward and pulled her twenty one year old child into a tight hug!

"What are you doing here? Why did you leave mom?"

"This dog needed me ma. He was hungry. I gave him a fruit and told him where I live, if he ever needs me."

"Where did you find the fruit?" she said looking at the furry dog chewing at his heart's content.

He raised his right arm and sang. "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them."
