The Time of Chess
The Time of Chess
BLACK.
INT. LIVING ROOM - MORNING
A 15-year-old boy is seen standing by a door to the hallway.
WHITE BROTHER
(with a bored face)
Hey, do you want to play chess?
His sister, a 13-year-old girl responds immediately.
BLACK SISTER
(with a straight face and half-shut eyes)
No.
After taking a breath and looking back again the brother replies.
WHITE BROTHER
I promise I won't cheat.
BLACK SISTER
Fine.
MATCH CUT TO:
EXT. VERANDA - MORNING
The sister gets black, and the brother gets white. The sister plays her king's pawn two blocks ahead.
WHITE BROTHER
(in a non-notorious tone)
No, you can't do that. I get to play the first move.
BLACK SISTER
(shocked and disappointed and as if she expected it)
What! You said no cheating, you can't make up rules.
WHITE BROTHER
I'm not making stuff up. It's an actual rule, white always plays first.
BLACK SISTER
(with a straight face and half-shut eyes)
Oh...well that's racist.
FADE TO BLACK.
