I had just been out of my bed when my cell phone rang. The voice on the other side informed me that they have a broken safe and all the contents of the safe had been stolen. I called my team and immediately reached the scene. We scanned for fingerprints but we didn’t find any. There was nothing other than a broken safe. We assured the family to keep patience until we found the robber.

We started our work to find the thief. The next day, I received another call with the same complaint. I again went there with my team only to find nothing but the broken safe. The only difference between the two robberies was that here I found a note in the safe. The note mentioned the name and address of the last person robbed. But why would tell someone about the last person he robbed?

The mystery had puzzled me. But one thing was clear the thief was new. So, he didn’t have much experience and he might make a wrong move soon. But I can't wait for him to take a wrong step and play into my hands.

After two days, I received another call. The caller said that he is going to rob another safe. He mentioned the address and time. We reached the spot of the robbery but I was too late. The thief had already broken the safe and escaped. There was no note this time. While my team was examining the scene, I received an SMS. It told, ‘You can never catch me’. I again left empty-handed.

My senior at the Investigation Department summoned me about the mysterious thief. I was answerless to him on why I was not able to get a clue till now. He warned me if I don’t catch the thief in seven days, I would be suspended from the case. I listened to him and left his cabin.

At my desk, I was sitting and trying to find a pattern in the robbery but nothing was helping. There was no pattern. I was too tired to sit there so I left for home.

The next day, I received another call. The call was from the person who was robbed. I knew it was worthless to go to the scene. So, I calmed the caller down and said that my team is already trying to find the robber. Meanwhile, news channels greatly criticized our department. The public was in fear. And the pressure from the seniors made the situation even worse.

I went back home after work. When I turned on the light, I found all the robbed items on my floor. I was jaw-dropped. I was trying to think how these could come here. After a few minutes, media personnel came rushing inside the building and reported that I have done all the robberies. Investigators from my department reached there to arrest me. I received a message just when I was being handcuffed. It said, ‘I told you that you can never catch me.’ I was thus arrested and taken for legal action.
