The Wedding Season

It's been wedding season all around for last 2-3 months. Everyone is getting married from Ranveer-Deepika, Priyanka-Nick to the Ambani's. Its not only the celebrities, I have attended 3 back to back weddings in the last month. In fact sometimes it feels like every time I open facebook someone or the other gets married.

The worst part is I am closer to 28 now, settled (at least according to my parents) so every family wedding i am the target of constant barrage of 'you are next'. Our whole life we were told beta 10th kar lo fir chill Karna, beta 12th Kar lo fir life set hai, beta graduation Kar lo fir enjoy, beta do MBA then you are free to enjoy. But as soon as you get a decent job after MBA its Beta ab toh life set hai , shaadi hi kar lo.

In India I feel most of the marriages are happening because of peer pressure. You feel sort of left out when everyone you know is getting married, some even having kids and your priority is finding a new TV show to binge. In fact I believe the other most important reason for getting married is boredom. When your friend start getting married, they start doing couple things and you feel left out being single. You can't watch a movie together, travel together without feeling awkward with people who were your best friends. Even dating is difficult as you start looking at everything in long term. You know when the girl is really cute but pure vegetarian and you are like its fine for a few months but can i really give up chicken for this chick?

Coming to the actual wedding, it's supposed to be fun but only if you are from the groom side. If you have ever been involved in planning a a wedding, you always wonder if the stress is even worth putting up well liked facebook display picture. No matter how well thought everything is relatives are going to complain about the food and the rooms even if its in a 5 star anyway. Plus there will always be a relative who will manufacture a controversy of not being treated with enough respect. The new concept of destination wedding works better in this regard as there are fewer guests to create drama. To be really honest in this case, bride and groom are there for the photoshoot and everyone else is just vacationing. The rational thing to do is get married in a court without any hassles but where's the fun or story in that?
