Triumph Over My Fears

When I started going to school at age of three, I was certainly away from all the pupils. I knew only one girl who was my father's friend's daughter admitted to the same school with me. She was nice at heart but she had bad habits. Under her influence, I also started to do what she did and everyone started hating me for no good cause. But after my second standard, my section changed. I got a chance to show everyone that I was different from her. I made many friends after that.

But still, I was not good at studies so everyone used to think that I am an average student. I didn't participate in competitions held in school. My confidence level was very low. Even if I knew the answers , I won't answer because I thought that if I would answer something wrong , the teacher would scold me and the others would laugh. In group activities , I was kept at the back. Then a drastic change came in my life that entirely transformed me.

In my fifth standard, I met a teacher who showed interest in me. She was the one who saw my potential to do better. She encouraged me. She gave me responsibilities so that my fear could end and I could prove everyone that I am also capable of doing everything that others can do. She gave me a chance to participate in a inter house story competition which took place in the school auditorium. My parents and I were overwhelmed. She was truly an inspiration for me and I can never forget her. Even in my report card meeting, she appreciated me in front of my parents. Then, my interest in studies grew more and more. I started to share my opinions and thoughts in front of my teachers as well as my fellow friends. If anyone would not let me participate in the class activities, I would fight for my rights.

In class six, seven and eight , my studies improved progressively. I started participating in my school activities. Every teacher appreciated me. I felt very proud of my self. In class nine, I became the PREFECT of my school which was indeed a very big opportunity. My parents were very happy so I was. Now I am in class ten , the board batch, I am a little bit afraid but when I remember my fifth grade class teacher, the only thought that comes to mind is that nothing is impossible. If there is a will , there is a way. We should never be afraid of the challenges that we face in our life. There is a saying that, " lf life gives you lemons , make a lemonade." There is very beautiful line said by the first black South African president, Nelson Mandela, that, " A man who is courageous does not mean that he is not afraid or does not have any fear, a man is courageous when he overcomes his fears.
