You say I'm shy and silent and lost in dreams,

And I say there's a side to me you haven't seen.

You say I run away from dance floors at parties,

And I say you haven't seen me groove around to peppy pop music

When no one's watching.

You say I look for quiet corners in loud crowds,

And I say you haven't seen my face light up

When I look up in wonder at a sky crowded with stars.

You say decked stages in sold-out auditoriums freak me out,

And I say you haven't seen me pull off a perfectly elegant ramp walk in the washroom, all dressed up.

You say you don't hear my voice enough and you don't know what it's like,

And I say, you haven't heard me sing my favorite songs everyday in the shower.

You imagine I'm calm and know how to deal with emotions,

And I smile to myself at the thought of you seeing me lashing out when I'm mad at people I love.

You think I don't need to share how I feel about things,

Have you seen me rant and gossip over every tiny detail about my life at the end of the day, with my mom or best friend?

You know I don't feel alive trapped in happening nights at clubs,

That's true, I feel alive when I'm out on the beach, gazing long at the endless ocean.

You think I don't whine or cry for what I want,

And lead a boring life with dreams you deem impossible,

Does it help to know I've seen dark nights and turned them into the break of dawn with my sheer, wild stubbornness?

And that I've given those dreams my sweat, blood and tears,

And have seen them come to life, each one I've had so far.
