Ungrateful

Ungrateful

A righteous hand led me to school,

The crocodile tears I shed could easily fill a pool.

As time passed I enjoyed going there,

Never really noticed my dad's head growing bare.

We didn't laugh and play like the earlier days,

Although we lived together, but we had our different ways.

The wind still tickled the old wind chime,

A lonely room with heartless photographs was dad's only pass time.

His face would light up to see me come,

I wouldn't sit for long as I felt I had much work to be done.

Success, women and ego had got me becoming bold,

I didn't realize my hero was actually growing old.

Many times he wished for his son and called me near,

What a fool I was, I didn't bother to hear.

I then decided its better we part,

The very thought of it broke his aged heart.

I paid the money and I led him there,

He longed for me to stop him, but he knew I didn't care.

With heartless pace, I took him at that time of gloam,

With ungrateful hands, I left him to rot an intruding old age home.
