"No one loves me, my life sucks!" she cried out loud banging her fists on the table. The glass of milk that was placed on the table fell off and shattered to pieces. The maidservant rushed in with a mop. "Why are you so upset Sonia madam?", she asked meekly. Young Sonia had been waiting just for this moment. "Can you believe it? I am fourteen and still I do not have a phone. All my friends got their phones when they were not even ten and look at me. My bad luck that I have such conservative parents who can't trust their daughter with a phone." Though the maidservant was nineteen she looked not much older than Sonia. "Madam mobile phones are addictive. If we are not matured enough we are likely to become their slaves. Probably your parents want you to focus on your board exams right now" The maid servant's words of wisdom felt like molten lava to Sonia. She screamed, "Get out of my room".

Sonia sat at her table still sulking. Her mother came to her with her favorite dessert. "Sonia now stop your tantrums and have some dessert". Sonia shouted out aloud, "As if you care? Leave me alone. I wish I would die." "So you wish to die because you do not have a phone? I must say it must be the most important thing in your life", Sonia's mom said in a calm voice. "Yes it is. If you love me you must get me a phone today", cried out Sonia. "I do love you a lot Sonia and that is precisely the reason that I am not getting a phone for you now," said her mom. "I knew no one in this house loves me, I am going to kill myself. Who wants this kind of boring life?" said Sonia and banged her head on the table. Her mom stood there looking at her in disappointment. Sonia kept banging her head hoping that her suffering would make her mother change her mind. But, her mother kept gazing and didn't make any attempt to stop her. Sonia's head was beginning to hurt now. Suddenly she looked at her mother and asked, "are you really my mom"? Her mother smiled and said, "Why this doubt?" "You don't care about my happiness", said Sonia. "Your happiness is most important to me Sonia. You are thinking about temporary happiness that one mobile phone will bring into your life but I am thinking about filling your life with happiness. It is important to understand that life is a gift from divinity. Every life-form on this earth is born with a purpose and soon after its birth, it starts preparing itself to make that contribution. Divine life can not be enslaved by small material pleasures and wants. I can get you a phone anytime you want, but as a parent, it is my duty to ensure that you are matured enough to understand that humans can survive and live happily even when none of their wants are met. As a parent, it is my duty to fulfill all your basic needs but the fulfillment of wants is a matter of choice that rests with all the parents. Let me know when you are matured enough to understand these important truths of life and I will surely get you a mobile phone". Sonia looked in shock as her mom smiled and walked out of the room.
