The Degree Of Money

"Education is money," Sreedhar's father said.

"But I want to be a farmer," Sreedhar said.

"You will be an engineer."

With that, Sreedhar was sent to an Engineering college. The tuition fee was hefty, and his father applied for an education loan against Sreedhar's name.

"I want to learn to farm," Sreedhar said as he signed the loan papers.

After four years of studying, he got a job.

Sreedhar's father said, "See? You got a job because you studied Engineering. And you wanted to be a farmer?"

"I still want to," Sreedhar said.

"Shut up, pay off your education loan now."

Within five years, Sreedhar paid off the loan, and immediately his father fixed Sreedhar's marriage.

"I want to farm, not marry," Sreedhar cried.

"You fool, the party is paying more than the current dowry rate for engineers. Get married fast."

Two years after his marriage, a recession hit the country, and Sreedhar lost his jobs. The girl's family called off the wedding and demanded the dowry be returned.

With no job, the only option to earn his bread was for Sreedhar to work in his ancestral land. His father called him a fool, but agrees. For once, Sreedhar was happy.
