Last Wish

Riya was waiting for the call since morning. She was hoping for a surprise on her birthday. Raj never forgets her birthday but this time it was different. It was six o'clock in the evening but there was no call.

Sitting alone, she recalled the first day when she met Raj. Her parents were excited on that day as Raj was coming for a marriage proposal. Everyone was feeling proud that a bravery award winner, an officer of the army was going to be part of their family.

At first sight, Riya fell for the uniform of Raj.

Tring! Tring!

Her thoughts were disturbed but she happily ran towards the phone. " Hello, Raj..."

"What! No!"

Riya was firmed in her expressions. Tears soaked now; sitting quietly surrounded by relatives.

Major Khanna brought the flag as a memento of honour as the body of Raj was not found after the blast at his position.

"He is a real hero," said Major. "He fought till the last. He shot five enemies before the blast. It's the last letter from him, for you."

Riya's hands were shaking while opening the letter. "Happy birthday, Riya, sorry I couldn't make it to your birthday, but your surprise is pending. I am going in the front for battle. If I couldn't return, just remember that my last wish is to be a soldier again and again if there is life again. But I wish you to be always there.

Tears rolled down but pride in her eyes fulfilled the last wish of Raj.
