Back To The Roots

Back To The Roots

I had sprouted out of a tree branch,

The one, to watch my peers all green,

Gaily singing in the wind incessant,

And dancing their way to fine glory.

Yet my branch had always been,

The supple one of the whole lot.

It held me and cherished me fine,

And bent for me time after time.

It gave me a peek of sunshine each day,

Bounced me up to peck the puffy clouds.

And when I sprouted wings, wondrous,

It beamed with pride watching me soar.

I fluttered with the birds and the butterflies,

And chased the colours of the brilliant sky.

And most of all, danced with those stars,

That held out their hard-to-win hands to me.

But soon I was beckoned by the tree-mighty,

Who declared I do not belong in the sky,

For I am just a leaf and I was conceived,

To fall back to the roots and crumble there.
