Did You Notice?

Did You Notice?

I used to stare at you when you read those heavy, boring books,

Did you notice?

I once called them boring,

And you were angry.

I knew that those books were your life,

And they were more dear to you than anything else.

But you were more precious to me,

Precious than anything else.

I tried to convey my feelings,

Did you notice?

I know you didn't.

Do you remember those times when I used to wait for you before going to school?

Seeing me, you were always surprised.

You used to ask me why I wait for you everyday.

Sometimes you were angry.

But believe me,

I used to wait just to see you.

Your brilliant, brown eyes,

And your beautiful smile.

I used to wonder,

Why do you look so handsome even when you were angry?

But.....did you notice?

I first met you when I was six,

But I didn't know that you were my neighbour.

We went to the same school,

And we became friends.

Very good friends indeed.

But somehow you had a special place in my heart.

I don't know why,

Maybe, your beautiful smile attracted me.

But I know that the feeling was not mutual.

I used to write about you in my diary.

Did you notice?

You never sat next to me in class,

You were always so distant.

Maybe I was not good enough.

You never spoke with me during the school hours.

Why?

I never interrupted your studies.

Then why?

I tried to stay close to you always.

Did you notice?

After the school finals and after bidding goodbye to our school,

You came to me one day.

Maa was happy to see you,

But I was more happy.

You told me that you were going abroad,

To study.

I was so happy for you.

But deep down I knew that it would never be the same,

I knew that I could never confess.

But the joy in your eyes, your dreams warmed my heart.

The day you left,

I went to the airport to meet you for the last time.

You smiled asked me whether I was sad.

I forced a smile and said no.

But my red eyes told a different story.

Did you notice?
