Do we think to get a Thought?

Do we think to get a Thought?

17th-century philosopher Rene Descartes famously said ‘Cogito, ergo, sum’ a Latin preposition translated as” I think, therefore I am’.  We think because we have a mind. The body and the mind are known to be distinct, independent of each other. How does the body then, decode the instructions sent by the mind? How does the mind rule the body? Can a human body exist and not be a thinking thing? A thought can manifest itself through words and whatever we speak in a word is a manifestation of a thought. Would a thought exist without a word?

“The whole world is a manifestation of thought. How can there be a thought without a word? I can’t say peaches are more like an apple than nectarines if I do not know what nectarines are. The word ’horse’ brings the thought of a horse because of previous knowledge in relation to physical experience or a memory of the horse.” Mind interrupted “Everything in the universe has a cause for its existence. We do not see objects simply popping into existence right before our eyes, with no explanation as to how they got there?” I said thinking aloud  “Thoughts spring out of beliefs. They have a limitation as they manifest because of certain prior perceptions. We think therefore we feel. We feel and thus we act. Emotions hugely impact our moral progress. Confronting them at a different level and trying to arrive at ‘Reflective equilibrium’- a phrase coined by John Rawls, meaning - it’s not only a battle of feelings, but reflections have everything to do with thinking.” Said Mind “Thoughts and emotions are like passing traffic.

We are just sitting and watching them go through, taking action only when the compulsion arrives because of emotions. Unsettled and overwhelmed emotions may sometimes want us to rush in the middle and stop the traffic, wouldn’t it?” I inquired  “Our thoughts are like a collection of books, collected throughout our lifetime stored in a big library. The quality of the library is measured solely by the quality of the books that it holds in its collection. Based on the collection and calling it a well-balanced library is up to us. Thought pattern defines one's outlook on the world. Thoughts generate action. But because thoughts cannot be seen it is commonly separated from action.” Mind added

“Does action precedes thought or thought precede action?” I thought

“Changing thought patterns can change the outcome of our actions. Cognitive-behavioral therapy practitioners work states that, thoughts always precede their feelings and feelings precede action. They focus on changing thought patterns for better behavior.” Mind said

Phrasing Lao Tzu, "Control your attention to shape your thoughts. Control your thoughts to shape your actions. Control your actions to shape your habits. Control your habits to shape your character. Control your character to shape your destiny.”

'Man has the natural privilege of roaming secretly among his thoughts' - Swami Vivekananda wrote in his book - Autobiography of a Yogi, adding, ‘We all think. The difference is we think and our bodies do not follow. Our actions do not harmonize with our thoughts. Our words are powerless’. Everything is one-sided which can be thought with thoughts. Thought when put into words is one-sided. We all have an inner world that we live in. A world of thoughts, ideas, and abstractions, making sense so that we can relate in a meaningful way to the outer world. If life is indeed guided by the evolution of our thoughts and action towards continuous growth, we reach a harmonized complexity.

Essentially it all comes down to the fact that perceiving something creates it. 'Perception is the process from which a form arises from emptiness' -The Process of Creation  To all who are reading:  "You are creating a meaning of what I’ve written right now and in doing so you are creating a conversation either with me or with yourself. But in fact, what you see on the screen are orderly squiggles on an empty ground"
