Effervescence
Effervescence
Late evening
And I sit down
Gazing at my screen
Months of learning
Undone, by my restless toes.
I am afraid your face will fade
From my blurry eyes
I close my eyes to recall
A beloved face, weathered
I gaze bewildered
My head conjures
The spotlights, the throb of music
Too bright, too loud, even for the
Young figure dancing
Alone in the crowd.
Hips swaying in time
To a tuneless melody
Arms aloft, the music changes
And I watch in fascination
Kohl-rimmed eyes hold me
Captive - I feel myself
Caught, enthralled by
A nose ring, a tattoo
On her belly
A creature dancing
On shoe-less feet.
