If I Were A Boy

If I Were A Boy

2 mins

When I was born, my parents cried

Bitter tears of resentment fell from their eyes

Salt in my wounds hits me like a freight train

Everything to lose, and nothing to gain

But then you were born, swaddled in blue

So beautiful, I stand accused

Pushed along to the sides, because I don't matter

They only think of you, I ain't even the latter

Teach me etiquette, fill my head with lies

Give someone ownership of me, I won't cry

Change my face and change my name

But you're still gonna stay the same

Fit my soul in a dress too tight

Plastic surgery, he wants a wider smile

I am weak, and you are strong

I am pathetic, but you have it all

If I were a boy, would you like me better

'Cause you're the white knight and I'm the bedwetter

If I were a boy, would it stay the same

Nothing to lose and everything to gain

Push me to the sides, 'cause I don't matter

Serve social conservatism on a silver platter

Pretty, sweet, and so polite

Patriarchy's best delight

Private property, if you'd like, you can talk about a lease

Chain my soul and break me whole, I cannot be free

Pink is feminine, and it is weak

Blue is on a winning streak

Spreading your victory with mass elation

And if it's any consolation

My whole life is a lie

Prison bars till the day I die

Teach me etiquette, fill my head with lies

Give someone ownership of me, I won't cry

Change my face and change my name

But you're still gonna stay the same

Fit my soul in a dress too tight

Plastic surgery, he wants a wider smile

I am weak, and you are strong

I am pathetic, but you have it all

If I were a boy, would you like me better

'Cause you're the white knight and I'm the bedwetter

If I were a boy, would it stay the same

Nothing to lose and everything to gain

Push me to the sides, 'cause I don't matter

Serve social conservatism on a silver platter

Pretty, sweet, and so polite

Patriarchy's best delight

Push me to the sides, because I don't really matter

They only think of you, I ain't even the latter

Serve social conservatism on a silver platter

And if it's any consolation

I celebrate my defeat with mass elation

My whole life is a lie

Prison bars till the day I die.
