Love Note
Love Note
It didn't come in the mail
Bearing stamp, address written
A4 size paper folded in four
Stapled at corners to let others know
To be opened by whose name it bore
Quietly slipped under the door
Yes...had my name handwritten
In cursive style was impressed
Didn't have a clue to its contents
Staple pins cautiously pried open
Had never sent anyone love notes
Then who could have dared to send
OK...got it! Was from the sixteen year old,
In English class; sat always on the last bench,
Never spoke, nor answered any questions
Otherwise performed brilliantly in tests
Poems composed laced with sadness
Essays written faultess; caught the attention
In his heart, he carried a huge burden
'Dear Mam...I'm afraid to speak in class
I have a stammer, cannot get across words
Afraid others will make fun, so please excuse
My silence, I need you to understand'
That was all, the sheet of paper contained.
