Love Perception

I looked into his eyes,

And found my soul residing in it,

A mirror of my own desires,

A place where I could freely be.

Enmeshed by the musings of this heart,

I let myself be swept away,

A willing captive to his charms,

But unsure of what would come to stay.

I don't remember when our hearts entwined,

Or when he captured my soul,

But now I feel a different kind of bind,

One that makes me feel less whole.

Maybe somewhere deep in my psyche,

There's a part of me that feels shackled,

Trapped by the expectations of society,

Or the fear of being left untackled.

Why are you asking me to stay?

Do you fear losing me?

I'll soon lose my mind,

If I don't get out soon.

You keeping me safe is a wrong notion,

For safety alone can't make me swoon.

And I think it's not love that we have,

For love should set us free,

Not hold us back or make us sad,

Or make us question what we see.

I guess my perception of love was wrong,

But now I see it crystal clear,

For I have found someone who enlightened me,

And taught me how to lose the fear.

Together we explore a new frontier,

Where love is freedom, not a shackle,

And where we can both be fully here,

Without the fear of love's tackle.
