October - A Poem of Autumn
October - A Poem of Autumn
The clouds that bear
The weight of the water
Are up above in the skies
Where sail those magnificent men
in their Flying Machines…
The yellow sun that burns
Outside the bars of my window
Tries its hardest to dry
The tears that stand on
The edge of my eye…
After the months of music and noise
The summer of sweet birdsong
The monsoon of mayhem
All around me is silence
That basks under the hot sun…
The stillness makes me long
To seek her kind friendship
In the musty pages of old books
Or let the bold, burning sun
Scorch my despairing eye…
As I gaze above at that glow
And try to find the flash
That gleamed in her hair
Or, in the dusk, discover
The bloom of colour on her face…
And my heart cracks in pieces
As each dry fallen leaf
Crushes under my feet
And in the stifling silence, I realise
I might never hear her voice again…
