Revealing Evils

In shadows cast by the candle's feeble glow,

I'll paint a portrait of society's woe,

A verse adorned with words profound and dark,

Revealing evils that have left their mark.

Behold, the first vile harbinger of disdain,

The scourge of ignorance, thy mind's bane,

Its tendrils coil 'round knowledge's door,

Impeding wisdom's ascent forevermore.

Next, a spectre looms with sinister mirth,

Corruption's beast, devouring all of worth,

From halls of power to streets of despair,

It preys on virtue with an insidious snare.

Ah, now gaze upon deceit's subtle guise,

A demon clothed in truth's own disguise,

With silvered tongue and honeyed lies,

It seduces hearts and blinds discerning eyes.

Greed, oh avarice, a malevolent force,

Thy hunger insatiable, thy nature coarse,

Thou trample on virtue, empathy's foe,

Leaving empty souls in the afterglow.

And lo, upon the stage, intolerance stands,

A divisive fiend, constricting hands,

Spewing hatred, sowing seeds of divine,

As empathy and compassion are cast aside.

Envy, like a serpent, silently creeps,

Jealousy's venom, bitter and deep,

It whispers envy into fragile minds,

Breeding discontent where contentment binds.

Last, but not least, the tyrant of might,

Oppression's tyrant, suppressing light,

Its iron fist crushes dreams in its wake,

Leaving broken spirits, and hearts left to ache.

These are the evils, the blights we face,

A tapestry of darkness we seek to erase,

Yet, with hope's kindling and love's embrace,

We'll vanquish these demons, and bring light to this place.
