SELF IMAGE (Nov.21 Theme: Stranger)

Mirror, mirror on the wall: No, I’m hardly a little girl anymore

I’ve been staring long and hard at the silvery glass core,

Is that me, staring with spectacled eyes, over yonder?

It seems as though a wide chasm opens up – I gape in wonder.

I, who had been more boyish than boys, am standing tall,

With shoulder-length hair spread wide, pasted against the wall,

The deep lines of thought that crisscross the face,

Have chiseled the other – over yonder – by marching years’ mace.

As I look upon the stranger on the other side,

I remember the morning when I had flown a kite.

I touch the surface of the glass and shiver as the icy cool –

Sinks inside, like warmth getting inside a jacket of wool.

Upon approaching the cold exterior, the other one also come forward –

Isn’t it strange that a mirror should begin my journey onward?
