Through The Political Glass

Through The Political Glass

When bad governance is the norm,

It afflicts the pearl of Africa with a cancer.

This is a land once adored by Winston Churchill.

Bad governance casts its poison in the veins,

And weakens the political body.

Like a plague, it infects the people,

and brings them to their knees.

It leaves them without hope and opportunity,

Bad governance is a dream thief,

in the land of scenic beauty.

Reflecting on the infamous ten-point program in 1986,

I cry my dole eyes out.

The chronic system robs the poor and those in need.

And enriches the few "liberators" and their children.

Like a tyrant, bad governance rules with an iron fist.

It suppresses dissent and freedom of speech.

It silences those who speak out.

And it obstructs change and stifles all democracy and prosperity.

Like a dark cloud, it casts a shadow over the land we call home.

It brings poverty, and ignorance,

Pestilence, and death.

Despite this political darkness,

We still have hope and zeal,

For a better country.

A new wave of change pillows like smoke.

We must stand up to bad governance,

And fight for a better future of our children.

We must never give up,

Regardless of how difficult the fight may seem.

We must never lose hope.

No matter how grim our situation appears.

If we unite as a country,

We can overcome all odds, fear, and mockery.

We can create a better country for all.

Without any form of discrimination, tribalism, or political bribery.

Let us fight for what is right and true.

Our country demands better education, technology, medical and sustainable development,

From the military men who professed "democracy" in 1986.

However, the self-styled liberators have violated human rights and denied equal opportunities.

Let us not be afraid to speak out.

No matter how powerful our oppressors are.

Let us not be silenced by fear, or self interest,

No matter how bleak the times may seem.

For we are the ones who hold the real power,

Not through the gun barrel,

The acidic rains may sway and divide us,

But we are the ones who will make a difference in our country.

Sometimes, the real heroes do not step on the podium.
